It seems like every time I do a taper there is at least one run that week that is just truly unpleasant.
Sometimes in the past it's been mental. When suddenly one mile into a three miler, I just suddenly feel like it's impossible, despite regularly running five to ten just one week earlier.
This time, however it was physical.
I'm down to my three mile jaunt. And the first two miles my knees were seriously complaining, possibly tight and achy from the weight room last night. Of course, as soon as they settled down and loosened up, my run was practically completed. I'll still take that kind of bad run to one involving actual injury, and having done both, I certainly prefer actual physical injury to losing a mental battle of motivations and spiritual fortitude any day of the week.
All in all, I'm glad I'm over my necessary pre-race, "what have I gotten myself into" bad run.
"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."
Philippians 4:13
